INOVA is looking for interpreters to support refugees. Are you the one to strengthen our team?

INOVA Refugee Support is an independent foundation active in the Alkmaar region, including the municipalities of Alkmaar, Dijk & Waard, Heiloo, Bergen, Castricum, Uitgeest, and the IJmond municipalities of Beverwijk, Heemskerk, and Velsen. In these areas, we assist status holders with integration and civic participation. We provide individual support, social activation, and group training. EdINOVA offers various language courses, including language improvement, literacy, civic integration, and the NT2 state exam. Our support focuses on increasing the self-reliance of status holders.

The Role

Most status holders speak insufficient Dutch (or English) to communicate well and clearly with INOVA’s volunteers and social counselors. To ensure accurate and complete information transfer, INOVA uses interpreters. This allows status holders to ask their questions and us to provide explanations. A good interpreter is essential, both during individual conversations and training sessions. As an interpreter, you focus on accurately and clearly translating information from Dutch (or English) into Somali,/Farsi-Dari /Tigrinya. You may be called upon for individual conversations, activities, walk-in consultations, training, or presentations.

What We Expect

As an interpreter, you speak good Dutch or English. You understand the situation of status holders and can translate effectively. You are familiar with the questions and problems they may face. You are neutral, patient, and motivated. You have an affinity with the target group and an open, learning attitude. You are socially skilled and culturally sensitive. You must be able to communicate clearly and explain things in a simple but understandable way. You are available for at least one half-day per week for a minimum of six months.
